Health Education and Health Promotion
So, I finally finished my Master of Public Health (MPH) degree and it didn't take me that long to find a job. I am currently working as a Community Health Education Specialist for the Mohave County Health Department in Arizona. I have health insurance! Not that you needed to know that, but I'm very excited about it. I started working at the health department March 20, 2017 and I wake up every morning excited to go to work. Well, most days. I don't dread it like I have for past jobs. I love my job.
Why do I enjoy going to work? Well, I'll tell you. For starters, I get 3-day weekends. I also get to go hiking and get paid to do it. Also, one of the main reasons I was hired was because I have gardening experience. I get paid to take care of school gardens. Lastly, I get paid to teach children about nutrition and physical activity. Now, these aren't the only reasons I love my job, but they are definitely the main reasons. I have my work cut out for me, but I will enjoy it to the fullest.
Enough about that. It's time I talked about where I am taking this blog. I want the blog to main focus on nutrition, agriculture, and physical activity (still haven't decide on that on). I'll also keep you updated on my job and what I'm doing. For nutrition, I'll most likely post recipes that I have found to be quite easy to make as well as anything else I want to talk about that is nutrition-based. As for agriculture, I'll keep you updated on the agriculture industry, as well as my gardening projects at the schools here in Mohave County. If I decide to include physical activity, it will be workouts that can be done at home or in the gym.

Above is a picture of one of my gardens at the Boy's and Girl's Club here in Mohave County. All the hard labor was already done, I'm just in charge of planting everything and making sure everything survives throughout the year. I can't wait to share more photos of the progress of this garden.
Below is another one of my gardens at a local school. It's a little sad looking but I'm hoping to whip it into shape. I'm a little worried though because I do not have access to this school during the summer.
For my next blog, I'll share with you the results of my thesis entitled The Influence of School Gardens on Preferences Towards and Consumption of Fruits and Vegetables: A Cross-Sectional Study.
